He finished CDL school and figured the hard part was over.
Then about 100 companies said no.
Matt has a lot of felony convictions. He calls himself one of the worst case scenarios. And he does not blame companies for being careful about that.
So he quit waiting to be seen past. He started giving people something new to look at.
His approach was simple. Most people are not working near their potential. Do a little more than the guy next to you, and stay quiet about it.
That is how you build a name when your name is the problem.
He is over the road now, coming up on a year with his company.
What he wants you to know: once you are in the door, your work is what people talk about. Not your record.

Matt went to truck school with a criminal record and figured the CDL would be enough to get a job. Then he got turned down by around 100 companies.
He kept going. Now he's driving over the road for a great company.
Here is what he said on the podcast. He does not blame the companies for being careful. Some guys do get hired, burn the company, and make it harder for the next person walking in the door. That caution is not about you.
But he also said this. If you have really changed, people see it. Somebody gives you a shot. And once you are in the door, your work is what people talk about, not your paperwork.
One thing worth knowing: a felony on its own does not automatically block you from getting a CDL. Federal rules disqualify drivers for specific major offenses, like using a vehicle to commit a felony. Every situation is different, and hiring is up to each company.

Freight follows how you shop.
A few stores offered curbside pickup before 2020. Then everybody tried it at once and it stuck. Now the pickup lanes are painted into the lot at Walmart and Meijer.
Somebody has to restock those stores more often, in smaller loads, from closer by.
A lot of those runs did not exist around here twenty years ago.
You can watch this happen where you live. Take a drive around your county. Count the new warehouses. Look for a food distribution building or a beverage depot. Read the hiring signs on the door.
Buildings go up before the job postings do.
That is how you figure out whether the work will be near your family or three states away.
