I took the Class B CDL course with Paul “Frenchy” Perryman. He was a great instructor, and everyone at MTDS in general was great. When I started the course I had never driven a manual before, but the course was very hands on and I was able to get lots of experience driving trucks, parking trucks, and learning the parts of the truck during the week.

Nobody warns you about your hands.

Not your legs, not your back. Your hands. That grip strength you need to hold yourself forward on the pole instead of hanging back in the belt. Most guys have never used those muscles in their life, and week one lets them know it.

Same story with the gear. Brand new gaffs and a stiff belt feel like punishment until they break in and start molding to you.

Then something shifts around week three. The pole you were huffing and puffing up last week doesn't feel so bad. Your body caught up.

It works exactly like training for a sport. The first stretch is rough because your body is adapting. After that, the difficulty stops being about your body and starts being about the next skill.

You don't have to show up in shape. You have to show up willing to be sore for a couple weeks.
... See MoreSee Less

The first time you watch someone climb 40 feet up a pole and lean out on an alley arm, your brain says one thing: nope 🙂‍↔️

That reaction is normal. Healthy, even. A reasonable person doesn't look at something dangerous and think "no problem"

But here's what we see happen every single class. Week one, guys are climbing a few feet up and coming right back down. Week ten, those same guys are doing pole top rescues on the clock.

Nothing about them changed overnight. They just kept showing up and going a little higher than the day before.

If you're sitting on the fence about a trade because it looks intimidating, that fear isn't a sign you can't do it. It's a sign you understand what you're getting into.

You're more capable than you think.
